Dr. D.W.M. Verhagen
Dominique Verhagen studied Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. She then completed her internal medicine training at the OLVG and the AMC Amsterdam. After her registration in 1999, she decided to specialise further in infectious diseases. Dominque Verhagen has now been working as an internist and infectious disease specialist for many years. She worked at the AMC from 1999 to 2004 where she, additional to her clinical work, started a study into the treatment of patients with infections on the heart valves (endocarditis). She received her doctorate on her dissertation with the title ‘Clinical and pathophysiological aspects of infective endocarditis’ in 2009. During the same period, doctor Verhagen wrote the Dutch Guidelines for the treatment of patients with endocarditis. From 2004 to 2007, she managed the General Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases departments at the VU Medical Centre in Amsterdam.
Dominique Verhagen has been working at our centre since 2007. She divides her work activities between the General Internal Medicine outpatient clinic and the HIV treatment centre.
Besides her work as an internist/infectious disease specialist, Dominique Verhagen is also active as a participating specialist with various national and international scientific researches focusing on the treatment of HIV, AIDS, and hepatitis and the adverse effects these treatments have.
