There is still a medical center in Jan van Goyen hiv treatment center established. The team consists of Dominique Verhagen and Fanny Lauw, internist-infectious disease specialists and Mark van Wijk, hiv nurse consultant.
Therapy offering expanded
There are always new developments in the field of HIV. One of the developments is that the therapy range, in addition to tablets, has been expanded with injectable medication; Long Acting Anti Retroviral Therapy. These must be administered intramuscularly every two months and can be a good alternative to daily pills for some people. This therapy can also be provided by Jan van Goyen, in collaboration with the OLVG pharmacy. The range of different HIV tablets has also been expanded, so that in the event of virological failure or side effects, a good alternative can usually be found. Where possible, we use a single-tablet regimen. The choice of therapy can be determined more individually due to the multiple options.
Growing Older with HIV
During the consultation, we always pay a lot of attention to cardiovascular risk and aging with HIV. The results of the REPRIEVE study (published in NEJM July 2023) show the importance of striving for a lower LDL in people with HIV. We pay attention to prevention in general and discuss the possibility of vaccinations (reimbursed by insurers) against pneumococci and shingles. We also perform HRA research (high-resolution anoscopy) into precancerous anal cancer (AIN). The ANCHOR study has demonstrated the relevance of this.
Personal care is central
Despite the small scale of Jan van Goyen, a wide range of care is possible: blood can be drawn on location (in collaboration with OLVG Lab), X-rays and ultrasounds can be performed and referrals to multiple specialisms are possible. Personal care is central to us and during the consultation we pay attention to both medical and social or mental questions.
Do you have questions?
If you have any questions about HIV-related matters, you can of course contact us via hteam@jvg.nl. New patients with HIV (new diagnosis) can always be seen within a few days, often even the same day. Patients who are already on medication but do not yet have a doctor in the Netherlands can also be seen at short notice.
