Concerns about delayed (skin) cancer care

Concerns about delayed (skin) cancer care

Last weekend, the postponed cancer care in the Netherlands was again in the press (including Volkskrant, Parool). This is in response to a report from the IKNL. A large part of that delayed cancer care concerns people with skin cancer.

A large number of people still seem to be reluctant to consult their GP (and their dermatologist) for fear of the corona virus. The physical capacity in practices is also often limited. We would like to emphasize that as dermatologists we are easily available to you (by telephone or digitally). In accordance with the agreements laid down in the NHG Standard for Suspicious Skin Abnormalities. When in doubt: consult the dermatologist and send your patient urgently if necessary. Convince him or her of the need for this as well. Skin cancer is generally treatable, provided it is detected early.

Skin cancer is our shared concern! Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about this message.

Sincerely,
